Supermarket Income REIT (SUPR) commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.

GHG scopes included:

The near-term targets covers Scope 1 & 2 emissions, the net-zero target covers Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions. Included in SUPR’s net-zero target is the Scope 3 emissions of the downstream leased assets emissions (the majority of SUPR’s emissions).

Scope 1: Natural gas consumption used for heating communal areas of sites under SUPR’s operational control.
Scope 2: Electricity consumption used for activities such as car park lighting in communal areas of sites under SUPR’s operational control.
Scope 3: Scope 3 accounts for the vast majority of SUPR’s emissions at more than 99%, the majority of which come from SUPR’s leased properties which sit under scope 3, category 13 downstream leased assets.

Policy on coal and other fossil fuel investments:

SUPR does not have an exclusions list but rather the fund has a defined investment policy to invest in property let to supermarket operators and other retailers. As noted in SUPR’s prospectus, SUPR will invest, directly or indirectly, at least 80 per cent of its Gross Asset Value in properties let to UK supermarket operators. SUPRs portfolio currently consists of 55
supermarket real estate assets in the UK (YE 30 June 2023).
