Information on interim target(s) covering the proportion of assets to be managed in line with net zero

Baseline(s):

2021

16% of portfolio companies setting a Science Based Target.

Target(s):

2030

56% of portfolio companies setting a Science Based Target.

GHG scopes included:

Our interim goal is for 60% of our portfolio companies to disclose Scope 1 and 2 emissions up from an estimated 15% today. We do not yet have a goal for Scope 3 given the current dearth of Scope 1 and 2 disclosure in our universe.

Methodology:

Science Based Target initiative for Financial Institutions

Scenario(s):

We are relying on engagement as our pathway and encouraging our portfolio companies to set net zero targets, preferably through the SBTi. We have set an interim target of 56% of portfolio companies setting a Net Zero target (up from 16%with either a carbon neutral or SBTi target today). As bottoms up active investors, we dialogue with most of our portfolio companies. We focus our most intensive engagement efforts on higher emitting, hard to decarbonize issuers to help them lower theirĀ  emissions and align with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Our objective is that the portfolio aligns with a 1.5 degree scenario over time, but our success in doing so depends on portfolio composition, the willingness of portfolio companies to engage and their ability to decarbonize.

Additional information

Policy on coal and other fossil fuel investments:

We do not have a formal policy with respect to fossil fuels, but the Climate Action Fund portfolio vetting processĀ tends to preclude inclusion of thermal coal, oil and gas company securities. For a security to be included in the Climate Action Fund, it either has to be aligned today, a low emitter (Scope 1 and 2 emissions are not deemed material), bridging the transition, or an engagement candidate.
