Portfolio decarbonisation reference baseline

This will be disclosed alongside our climate metrics and targets in our regulatory TCFD reports due 2024.

Portfolio decarbonisation reference target

50% reduction in aggregated in-scope assets weighted average carbon intensity (scope 1+2)

GHG scopes included:

For our medium and larger capitalised listed equity company holdings in developed markets, we have good coverage of Scope 1 & 2 emissions data and we are encouraging companies to improve reporting on Scope 3. For our operational emissions we report our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and we are working to improve our Scope 3 coverage

Net Zero Investment Framework

We have based our targets on the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) special report on global warming of 1.5 degrees centigrade which envisages a 50% reduction in global greenhouse gases between 2020 and 2030.

Additional information

Proportion of AUM committed:

Our initial focus is the equity assets held within the investment portfolios we manage. Within this asset class we are focusing on medium and larger capitalised listed companies in developed markets as these are the assets and markets where we have been able to get the most accurate climate data. We are working to increase climate data coverage through engaging with smaller capitalised listed companies, 3rd party fund managers that we invest with and with data providers (especially in fixed income) to increase the coverage of our assets. As these datasets become available we will extend our targets to cover more assets. We aim to review this proportion in 3 years.

Policy on coal and other fossil fuel investments:

We generally have a minimal aggregate allocation to coal and we monitor this exposure on a quarterly basis. We also monitor our exposure to other fossil fuel related investments such as oil and gas companies and aim to reduce our aggregate exposure in line with UK government policy. A number of our investment products already exclude investment in companies with greater than 10% of company revenues from fossil fuels.
